Soy-Free Love Potion

Remember middle school, when “going out” with someone meant his dad would drive him to meet you—and your mom—at the movies?

Today I was thinking back to middle school, the time when girls discover that whole “boys have cooties” thing is a lie. My mind wandered through first crushes to first kisses to first dates.

After my run, I extended the love-on-the-brain theme into breakfast: with a Lavender love potion parfait. The cream is my Healthy Whipped Cream blended with blueberries; lavender refers only to the color, not the taste.

Soy Free Lavender Cream

(Makes 1 1/2 cups: one Katie-sized serving!)

  • sweetener of choice
  • 1/16th tsp salt
  • handful blueberries
  • scant 2 1/2 tbsp water (20g)
  • 3 drops coconut extract, optional but recommended
  • 1/2 serving agar base (recipe linked below)

Instructions: First, make up the agar base. When it’s cooled, put 1/2 of it in a blender (or Magic Bullet) with all the other ingredients and blend away.  Whip very well. I like to put it in the freezer for a few minutes prior to eating, so it’s super-cold.

See original cream post for Nutrition Information.

For the parfait, I simply layered cooked oatmeal, cacao nibs, and the cream.

Question of the Day:
Do you remember your first kiss?

I am sorry to say, mine was not “Hollywood movie” romantic. Actually it was mortifying! I was in 7th grade, at a friend’s birthday party.

A bunch of us were sitting in her backyard, including my boyfriend at the time. Suddenly, everyone starts chanting, “Kiss kiss kiss!” Because so few of my friends were in relationships at such a young age, they decided that others’ relationships were their business; it was like Gossip Girl. Ugh. Anyway, the guy leans in, and I get all nervous. I scream, “Don’t kiss me, I have taco breath!” :-?Mortifying with a capital M. (But in the end, he kissed me anyway lol.)

HAHAHAHAhahaha! I am cracking up at your taco breath story! Yes I remember my first kiss – I was 17 or 18 (late I know, very strict upbringing!), one of my friend’s had a new boyfriend (her first too!) and they and I and one of his friends started hanging out all the time and I thikn I felt like I was supposed to “go out” with him cause we were the two odd ones out? Lol, not sure, but anyway, we were all hanging at the local Jr College (no idea why now…we were just loitering?) and he kissed me – I was terrified! Ack! Looking back now it’s like “Um, THAT was a big deal? Yeah ok.” Lol!

The parfait looks FREAKING AMAZING, you are incredible! I want to make this now! Though I don’t have blueberries, I think I’ll do it with strawberries and have a red/pink valentines parfait! (Though I haven’t got a cool clear glass like that to put one in anyway so I suppose it doesn’t matter what color it is!! Ha!)

Such a beautiful looking brekkie!! Oh dear, my first kiss was um awkward to say the least. The only thing I distinctly remember is my face getting so so hot from embarassment/nerves in general that I thought I was going to start sweating. I was convinced everyone was going to see my red face and immediately know a boy had kissed me!

MAJORRR LOL, my first kiss was totally at the movies that my dad had dropped us off at 😀 SO AWK!! it was raining and my friends were huddled across the little towne center food court just waiting for me, aka watching us….gotta love it! 🙂

LOL yeah, friends always thought it was fun to watch such things. Weird to the extreme… and awkward. Middle schoolers apparently don’t know about privacy!

My first real kiss was at 16, out the door of a car as I was leaving for gymnastics practice. The schmuck broke up with me 3 weeks later, but oh well. It’s for the best. I think he ended up being a plumber or something.

And, um, your blog makes me SUPER drool. That is all. 🙂

Hahahahaha lol at “I think he ended up being a plumber or something.” Too funny :).

Parfait perfection right there. It’s gorgeous!
I really need to NOT catch up on your blog posts right before bed. Every single one I just read was completely mouth watering and now I’m hungry. And I just saved a stack of them. More CCK recipe adventuers in my near future, that’s for sure!

Taco breath, haha that’s too cute. My first was pretty late, 18 or 19 and the story isn’t that exciting but it was aided by a little liquid courage and was with someone I liked at the time so it was a good one! My FIRST first kiss was kindergarten though. Some boy in my class begged me and we kissed while hiding between the big theatre curtains of our school stage. I was so easily persuaded at such a tender young age hehe.

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

LOL kindergarten, huh? You fast mover! 😉

Echoing the late bloomer thoughts – I had just turned eighteen, and the paramour was a Russian guy who barely spoke English…somehow that was very attractive to me!
I bet you could infuse your blueberries with a little actual lavender syrup to further the theme…

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

When I was in high school, there was a Russian dance troup who came to preform. I think every single girl at my school had a crush on them!

  9. BroccoliHut says:

Ooh! Great recipe! I am a huge fan of coconut extract–I find myself adding it to everything from smoothies to pancakes, to oat bran!
My first kiss was not all that long ago–Seth was my first!

Haha. My first kiss happened this summer… Well, there was one when I was 5 but that doesn’t count. Anyway, I went swimming at night with a couple friends and a semi-date. He didn’t go swimming. After I got out of the water, I was going to go home, and the guy was like, “Come here. I don’t care if you’re wet.” Bad sign right there. I thought he was going to hug me, so I turned my head at the last minute and he got my ear. Gross.
