Breakfast Cookie Dough

Cookie dough for breakfast.

Finally, a reason to love Mondays.

Breakfast Cookie Dough!

When I was little, I saw commercials for a cereal called “Cookie Crisps” that claimed to taste just like cookies for breakfast. Obviously my 7-year-old self begged and begged until my mom finally relented and bought it, cautioning me the entire time it wouldn’t really taste like cookies.

She was right, of course. Cookie Crisps tasted not like cookies, but like a different c word: cardboard. (Sadly, I didn’t learn my lesson. The next year I made her buy Count Chocula, another cardboard-esque breakfast cereal.)

With today’s recipe, you can finally have a cereal that really does taste like chocolate-chip cookies and milk all blended together.

Breakfast Cookie Dough

(serves 1)

  • 1 cup flake cereal (bran flakes, cornflakes, spelt flakes, etc.) (35g)
  • 1/3 cup Mori-Nu tofu, or yogurt of choice (80g)
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice (180g)
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • sweetener of choice (such as stevia, sugar, or even maple syrup)
  • handful of chocolate chips
  • optional:1 tbsp peanut butter, or 2 tsp coconut or veg oil (or sub another nut butter for the peanut)

Blend together all ingredients, except chips. (I use a Magic Bullet.) Stir in chips. The cereal will have a thin consistency at first, but if you leave it in the fridge (after blending) for even just 10 minutes, it starts to get really thick. Good cold or hot.

Breakfast Cookie Dough

Growing up, did you have a favorite breakfast cereal?

I took turns with Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, and Life. But my all-time favorite was Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. When I was going through a growth spurt in 7th grade, I’d routinely come home from school and polish off an entire box!

By the way, one of the Cookie Crisp slogans is, “You can’t have cookies for breakfast, but you can have Cookie Crisp.” Ummm wait a second… who says you can’t have cookies for breakfast?!

Yummmmm! Quick question, though. Okay, I cannot eat any “flakey” cereal due to food allergies. So, could I use Rice Chex instead? Would it still turn out as delicious looking and tasting? Thanks!

      Sorry, I really don’t know.

I made this recipe out of granola and came out really sticky (but that could be from the dried fruit in it) w/ a slightly crusty shell that formed on the surface after fridge-ing. It was ok, but texture was off-putting and only tasted good bc I blended in cinnamon.

The first time I made this recipe was actuallly the day b4 the granola version, out of high-fiber twigs-and-flakes cereal, and vanilla yoghurt. The only difference was that I let it soak first and then blended, and it came out too thin. Could reversed order actually have that much impact on this recipe?

I know this is a little late, but I just used corn chex because I have a gluten allergy and it came out perfect! Thickened and everything ☺️

I just made this breakfast cookie dough and really liked it!
i ate a couple spoons of it and then thought i would stick it in the microwave for about 1 min 30 sec so the chocolate chips could melt, and it came out even more divine!

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

I love your idea to microwave it after adding the chips. Changing my post right now! 🙂

  3. Rena says:

I’m totally trying this for breakfast tomorrow!!!!

  4. Demelza says:

When I was younger, my favorite thing was picking all the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms cereal. I also like Cocoa Krispies and Oreo O’s cereal, even though it tasted nothing like Oreos. xD

  5. Joy says:

As a kid my FAVORITE breakfast was raisin bran

  6. Honeybird says:

Lol, when I was younger, I used to eat Smacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey_Smacks) every morning. Not with milk or yoghurt, but just dry out of the bowl, they tasted best that way! 😛 Keeping it crunchy.
I think the extra chocolate chips are a great addition in your bowl above, because it gives this extra texture ;).

Is there no end to your awesomeness? I now can not wait for breakfast tomorrow! I am obsessed with your site! Thank you for delicious healthy desserts and please don’t ever stop!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  8. Mandy says:

Awesome! I was wondering how I could use up more of the Bran flakes that I bought for the “Better”fingers recipe. Thanks Katie!

I’m surprised that no one mentioned Reese’s Peanut Butter Puffs cereal yet. I ate that everyday for about a year. Every now and then I still get cravings for the chocolatey/peanut buttery powdered coating.

  9. Dani says:

I absolutely LOVE cereal. I wake up in the morning exciting to eat my bowl of cereal with soy milk and strawberries (or other seasonal fruit). It never gets old! Surprisingly enough, I like the really healthy-high-fiber-low-sugar-cardboardy-delicious cereals like Fiber One (or the trader Joe’s version). Despite my love for the ‘cardboard’, I like other flavors too, and this cookie dough breakfast looks delicious.

    1. Annie says:

Haha me too! I love high fiber cereal w/very little sugar in it . . . plus I never get tired of it for breakfast. I used to think I could live off just cereal and milk – my discovery of the Cereal Diet!

  10. Megan says:

I also was not frequently allowed sugary cereal as a kid, but I have always loved to do cereal combinations. My favorite was probably Wheat Chex, Rice Chex, and Cheerios. I learned this from my dad. Now when I allow myself to buy sugary cereal, I LOVE Honey Nut Chex and Multigrain Cheerios. Don’t stray too far, do I??

  11. Lisa @ The Raw Serenity says:

    What a great idea!
I loved fruit loops. Basically I eating sugar and milk.
It now turns my stomach thinking about it but at the time I thought it was Christmas in a bowl

  12. Am says:

I would say that Life was my favorite cereal when I used to eat a lot of cereal. And then, later on, when Mom was buying us healthier stuff, I liked EnviroKidz cereal the best: Koala Crisp, the lemur cereal was my favorite (but they discontinued it) and Panda Puffs!

  13. Melissa @ My Whole Food Life says:

Yum! Can’t wait to try this too! When I was little, I loved lucky charms. Let’s be honest, I loved the marshmellow and discarded the rest. 🙂 I have come a long way since then. Lol.

  14. Quin says:

Yumm! Sounds absolutely delish! Just a suggestion about some of the recent updates: A lot of my favorite food blogs provide step-by-step photos, and I think it would be especially helpful for your recipes! Since you are such an amazing photographer I think it would be great if you provided these photos, so we know where we should be at each step.

  15. Mallory @ Have Your Cake and Eat It Too says:

I loved corn pops, honey combs, waffle crisp…
