Breakfast Cookie Dough

Cookie dough for breakfast.

Finally, a reason to love Mondays.

Breakfast Cookie Dough!

When I was little, I saw commercials for a cereal called “Cookie Crisps” that claimed to taste just like cookies for breakfast. Obviously my 7-year-old self begged and begged until my mom finally relented and bought it, cautioning me the entire time it wouldn’t really taste like cookies.

She was right, of course. Cookie Crisps tasted not like cookies, but like a different c word: cardboard. (Sadly, I didn’t learn my lesson. The next year I made her buy Count Chocula, another cardboard-esque breakfast cereal.)

With today’s recipe, you can finally have a cereal that really does taste like chocolate-chip cookies and milk all blended together.

Breakfast Cookie Dough

(serves 1)

  • 1 cup flake cereal (bran flakes, cornflakes, spelt flakes, etc.) (35g)
  • 1/3 cup Mori-Nu tofu, or yogurt of choice (80g)
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice (180g)
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • sweetener of choice (such as stevia, sugar, or even maple syrup)
  • handful of chocolate chips
  • optional:1 tbsp peanut butter, or 2 tsp coconut or veg oil (or sub another nut butter for the peanut)

Blend together all ingredients, except chips. (I use a Magic Bullet.) Stir in chips. The cereal will have a thin consistency at first, but if you leave it in the fridge (after blending) for even just 10 minutes, it starts to get really thick. Good cold or hot.

Breakfast Cookie Dough

Growing up, did you have a favorite breakfast cereal?

I took turns with Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, and Life. But my all-time favorite was Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. When I was going through a growth spurt in 7th grade, I’d routinely come home from school and polish off an entire box!

By the way, one of the Cookie Crisp slogans is, “You can’t have cookies for breakfast, but you can have Cookie Crisp.” Ummm wait a second… who says you can’t have cookies for breakfast?!

Mmm, looks delicious! Will definitely be trying, I just love you and your recipes 🙂 Maybe you could make some vegan carmel apples for the fall? I would love that!

  3. Bianca-Vegan Crunk says:

These were from a store called Home Goods. It’s affiliated with TJ Maxx… I think they were $2 each!

Funny, you picked out my two favorite cereals as the yucky ones 😉
Don’t eat those any more though. I think I’ll be way more satisfied with a breakfast like this!

  8. Lauren says:

My mom was really healthy, so I never got to indulge in the cold cereals I would have liked. My (healthy) favorites were Cheerios, Just Right (I used to pick out the dates and eat them), and Rice Krispies with raisins!!

  9. Life's a Bowl says:

I’ve never thought of “blended” cereal- sounds good! I bet oats would be a good sub for a cooler fall morning 🙂 One of my childhood favorites was Kix!

  10. Lily Fluffbottom says:

Looks pretty tasty, though I’ve never really been a fan of soggy cereal, so I’m not sure. I was all about cocoa puffs. With Chocolate milk.

  11. Laura says:

I actually already came up with this after seeing your banana/ pumpkin bread in a bowl! Except I ate it as a late night snack. Sometimes you’re out of bananas and opening a can of pumpkins just seems like too much effort! 😀

  12. Kimberly says:

Katie, this is wonderful. Thank you! I have been making your cookie dough dip for the past couple of weeks, but sadly none of it has made it to the dip bowl as I have been devouring the whole thing straight from my food processor! I can’t wait to try this one. Your recipes are wonderful for me, because I need to avoid sugar, because it aggrevates my PCOS. Keep the cookie dough coming!

  13. Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says:

This sounds SO good!! I don’t have any cereal in my pantry (except hot cereal) but am really tempted to swing over to the grocery store after the gym tomorrow morning so that I can make this! The chocolate chips are making my mouth WATER. Literally.

  14. Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says:

Oh my gosh. I HAVE To make this!!!! I’ll ask my mom to get me some bran flakes when she goes to the store tomorrow (I have everything else) and whip me up some deliciousness! 🙂 Do you think medium-firm tofu will work???

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

      Sorry, I haven’t tried so I don’t know.

  15. Amanda says:

I looove sugar smacks! I don’t get cereal a lot, my son is 19months and was recently introduced to Krave cereal at my moms so we always have a box as a snack time fave.
I can’t wait to try this, I’m bad at breakfast though, I always skip it! This probably wouldn’t keep overnight though, would it?

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

Sorry, I haven’t tried. You could mix the dry ingredients the night before, though.

  16. Rebekah says:

I already loved pumpkin bread in a bowl and now this is amazing! It is so addicting it is like a drug! Thanks!
