You’re going to think I’m crazy…
That’s okay.
My grandma always said, “If they’re laughing at you, at least you got someone to laugh.”
I like making people laugh. So please laugh all you want at my crazy idea for Frappuccino Oatmeal… But give this recipe a chance and I bet you will be astonished at how delicious it is!
When Starbucks starts selling it in 5 years, maybe then you won’t think I’m so crazy. 😉
Frappuccino Oatmeal
(can be gluten-free!)
Recipe from here: CCK Oatmeal Recipes
- 1 serving rolled oats (See nutrition link below, for all substitution notes)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1 cup water or more milk of choice
- 1/4 tsp salt (important to add before cooking)
- 1 tsp instant coffee granules (I use Mt. Hagen decaf.)
- sweetener of choice
Microwave option: Combine first four ingredients in a large pyrex measuring cup, and microwave 4 minutes (watching during the last minute to make sure it doesn’t spill over). Leave in the closed microwave 5 extra minutes, then transfer—uncovered—to the refrigerator to sit overnight and absorb the liquid. The next day, add the coffee, a tiny pinch more salt, and sweetener. Stir, and reheat if desired. (I actually like eating this cold!)
Stovetop option: Combine all ingredients (Cut the water back to 1/2 cup if you’re not planning to let it sit overnight). Cook, stirring occasionally, until oats are soft and fluffy (or until they’re still a little liquidy if you want to let it sit uncovered overnight in the fridge). If desired, chill in the fridge. Otherwise, serve and enjoy.
Topped with my favorite melted Homemade Chocolate.
Question of the Day:
Do you care about what other people think of you?
I used to. A lot. When I was in fourth grade, I completely gave up playing with Barbies just because some girls told me it was babyish. (I bet they secretly still played with Barbies, too!) In middle school, my friends and I practically lived in the bathroom, always checking the mirror to apply extra makeup and make sure our hair was perfect. (Rolls eyes at younger self.)
Thankfully I grew out of my awkward middle-school phase and gradually began doing my own thing and caring less and less what others thought about it. If people think I’m odd, that’s perfectly fine. Being normal is so boring! 🙂

Loving the idea! I will try it soon, but now it is too hot and humid outside for oatmeal I think.
Maybe you have somse smoothie or popsicle recipes coming up? I hope so 🙂
I’m making the frappucino pops tonight!
I’ve been on a NO cook oatmeal kick lately. (maybe b/c it’s been hot out). do you think, maybe, this would work as a no cook version?? I don’t know much about instant coffee…does it need HOT water? I have my oatmeal already in the ‘fridge for the rest of this week…maybe i’ll just be brave and try this Sunday night for Monday’s breakfast. What’s the worst that can happen…right???
I think if you dissolved the instant coffee, salt & sweetener in water before adding it to the oatmeal it would work as a no cook version! Instant coffee dissolves pretty quick even in lukewarm water. Hope that helps!
Oh goodness you’re definitely not crazy. What I do all the time is mix 1 cup water, 1/3 cup quick cooking oats, 1/2 banana, 1/2 packet of starbucks instant coffee and microwave that for 4 mins, then let it cool for 1-2 mins then add 2 tbsp almond butter, a drizzle of vanilla extract, a dash of cinnamon, a dash of ginger, a dash of cloves, and then the rest of the banana to top it off. I’ll have to use your idea and try the chocolate on top!
Just made this for breakfast! It’s yummy but I had no idea how much sugar to put in as you just said to “sweeten to taste”. I only put in 1 tsp at first and that was no good so I ended up adding quite a bit more sugar! I should have assumed though that I would like roundabouts the same amount of sugar in my oatmeal as I would a typical cup of coffee!! Lesson learned 🙂
Try it with a melted banana in place of sugar sometime — it’s perfect that way!

This is one my fav. ways to make oatmeal! I haven’t done the ‘mexican hot chocolate version’ as suggested way above, but now I shall! I also really enjoy adding extracts: hazlenut and almond, occasionally a bit of caramel. Not all together of course!
why would i laughed to you… Once, I made oatmel, using coffee instead of water to cook it, and then I stirred chocolate-covered coffee beans in it 😀 It was delicious, I´m telling you 😉 I also like to mix my oatmeal with hot cocoa mix….
If I care what other people think about me? Not really, I only care what my loved-ones think about me, and that is only my family and a few friends 🙂 Others can think whatever, I respect it (unless they´re telling me what to do 😀 )
I’m going to make this for lunch, but instead of using instant coffee granules, I’m going to brew a cup of coffee and use it in place of the water. I’ll let you know how it turns out if you want 🙂
This is one of those food combinations that I would never have thought of. I had some for breakfast hot. Sooooo tasty. Then, I tasted it cold this evening. Sooooo tasty. I may have a new favorite breakfast. Incidentally, it works quite well using brewed coffee in place of the water and instant (I didn’t have any instant around).
Makes me wonder what other beverages could be used in oatmeal…
Maybe I’m missing something, but why is it so crazy to put coffee in oatmeal? I’ve been doing that since high school. My roommate used to brew coffee and use it instead of water.
This so NOT a crazy idea. Coffee+Oatmeal=Awesome! Ever since I started following your blog, I’ve been blending all kinds of things into my oatmeal from chia tea mix to lemons with banana. I absolutely ADORE how versatile oatmeal is!
I must try this particular combination, immediately!
