You’re going to think I’m crazy…
That’s okay.
My grandma always said, “If they’re laughing at you, at least you got someone to laugh.”
I like making people laugh. So please laugh all you want at my crazy idea for Frappuccino Oatmeal… But give this recipe a chance and I bet you will be astonished at how delicious it is!
When Starbucks starts selling it in 5 years, maybe then you won’t think I’m so crazy. 😉
Frappuccino Oatmeal
(can be gluten-free!)
Recipe from here: CCK Oatmeal Recipes
- 1 serving rolled oats (See nutrition link below, for all substitution notes)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1 cup water or more milk of choice
- 1/4 tsp salt (important to add before cooking)
- 1 tsp instant coffee granules (I use Mt. Hagen decaf.)
- sweetener of choice
Microwave option: Combine first four ingredients in a large pyrex measuring cup, and microwave 4 minutes (watching during the last minute to make sure it doesn’t spill over). Leave in the closed microwave 5 extra minutes, then transfer—uncovered—to the refrigerator to sit overnight and absorb the liquid. The next day, add the coffee, a tiny pinch more salt, and sweetener. Stir, and reheat if desired. (I actually like eating this cold!)
Stovetop option: Combine all ingredients (Cut the water back to 1/2 cup if you’re not planning to let it sit overnight). Cook, stirring occasionally, until oats are soft and fluffy (or until they’re still a little liquidy if you want to let it sit uncovered overnight in the fridge). If desired, chill in the fridge. Otherwise, serve and enjoy.
Topped with my favorite melted Homemade Chocolate.
Question of the Day:
Do you care about what other people think of you?
I used to. A lot. When I was in fourth grade, I completely gave up playing with Barbies just because some girls told me it was babyish. (I bet they secretly still played with Barbies, too!) In middle school, my friends and I practically lived in the bathroom, always checking the mirror to apply extra makeup and make sure our hair was perfect. (Rolls eyes at younger self.)
Thankfully I grew out of my awkward middle-school phase and gradually began doing my own thing and caring less and less what others thought about it. If people think I’m odd, that’s perfectly fine. Being normal is so boring! 🙂

Oh wow, that last photo is especially lovely. This post made me laugh SO much. And now I am craving oatmeal. Only you could get someone to actually CRAVE oatmeal ;).
What exactly is “one serving of oats” in cups or – better – grams? I could possibly re-calculate that from the calories, but… yeah, I am lazy. ^^
I think it’s 40g, or at least that what it says on my oatmeal package. It’s a little over a dl, like 1/2 cup or something. 🙂
Yep, Sarah has it (about 1/2 cup)… That makes a huge serving, though (especially with the voluminous oats trick described!), so for myself I do 1/4 cup oats and 3/4 cup liquid (milk or water) for cooking.
This sounds good! We have a coffee shop so I have access to lots of coffee! This morning I added dark chocolate chips, pecans, cinnamon & raw sugar to my oatmeal. Will definitely have it again–it was delicious!!
I don’t care for coffee myself, but will pass this on to others in my family that I’m trying to encourage to eat better. Maybe this will do the trick. Thanks for the great idea!
I think we all go through that insecure stage when growing up. Fortunately most of us grow out of it. I really don’t care what people think of me for the most part. I think we are all unique individuals and how boring it would be if we were all the same. My daughter is just leaving those middle school years where it’s so important for everyone to be a clone of the other. I’ll be glad when we get past that stage, it’s not my favorite one. I always hope that she will gain a little more self confidence. She’s such a creative, sweet, smart and unique individual.
Yum! I have to try this! When I was younger I also used to be a lot more concerned about what people think… now I just be ME and try to teach my children to be themselves too and do what makes them happy (while not hurting anyone else!).
Haha, that girl in 4th grade was SO playing Barbie in secret! I remember coming home from my first day of 7th grade Jr High and playing Barbies with my best friend. We swore not to tell anyone of course.
I am so thankful to have found your blog. Over the past year we have found my 8 yr old daughter is allergic to milk, egg, and soy. It has been such a struggle to find things she can and wants to eat. It’s all “health” food. Everything we have tried off of your site has been delicious. Thank you. Two questions for you: do you ever use flax? I have read that you can sub it for the fat in baking but I’m scared to try it! Will you make a granola recipe? It’s one of our favorite breakfast choices but I can’t use my old recipe. Thanks Katie and keep up the delicious work!
I think my Genius Blondies are the only recipe I have that call for flax. But you can also use it in the Big Fat Coconut Breakfast Cake. I really need to experiment with it more. I’ve heard it’s great as an egg replacer!
And I do have the Copycat Nature Valley Granola Bars… just crumble them up and they could be granola! I tried to make a chocolate granola once, but sadly it was awful!
I haven;t heard of using flax for the fat in recipes, just eggs. You mix it with a bit of water and its supposed to work really well. I think if you just want to use flax in recipes because you want the nutrition you could add it to basically anything.
Thanks! I will try making the bars and smash ’em up. I would love some more uses for flax. It’s delicious and nutritious. 😉
Sounds interesting. I definitely saves time. Coffee and breakfast in one! 2in1 :)) And when I was younger it was very important what people think about me. With years it’s change, you stop worrying about it …
thats not weird at all.. Ive been doing that trick too and recommending to anyone since then and they liked it. I let it cool and add corn flakes to it aand it was heaven! 😉
Not crazy at all… This looks/sounds amazing! So glad I bought more milk yesterday. 🙂
I didn’t care too much what people thought of me in high school because I was a nerd anyhow, and I try not to care now but I still do sometimes. It depends, I guess… I care a lot what people I respect think of me, but the opinion of people I dislike is pretty unimportant. 😉
I haven’t tried any flavor of oatmeal since I was a kid. But, I think I will try this one!
