Rich, chocolatey, homemade and healthy York peppermint patties.

Ooh, look!
Flying chocolate saucers!
Flying into my wide-open mouth. It’s funny how they don’t need to ask for directions…

Thick chocolate coating, filled with a rush of sweet peppermint.
These intense chocolate peppermint patties are out-of-this-world good.
*Cue creepy sci-fi music.*
Do you believe there’s life on other planets? I know people are considered quacks if they believe in aliens, and I don’t believe in the green, googly-eyed aliens of science-fiction movies. But who really knows there’s not life in some form outside of our own solar system? Earth is still best, though, because we have chocolate!

Healthy York Peppermint Patties
Ingredients
- 2 tsp water
- 2 tbsp coconut butter
- 1/8 tsp pure peppermint extract, or as desired
- 1 1/2 tsp agave or pure maple syrup, or stevia drops to taste
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp water
- 2 tbsp agave or pure maple syrup (see link below for a sugar-free sub)
Instructions
- Combine first 4 ingredients in a little bowl. (Best if the coconut butter is not melted.) In a separate bowl, combine last 4 ingredients. In candy molds or cupcake liners, spread out 1/2 of the chocolate, then portion the mint filling on top. Finally, cover with the rest of the chocolate and freeze until chilled. If you'd prefer sugar-free peppermint patties, omit last 4 ingredients and use my Sugar Free Chocolate Sauce.Substitution notes: If you don’t have coconut butter, perhaps you can sub more coconut oil, although I haven’t tried this and can’t vouch for the results. I haven’t tried any coconut-free variations of this particular recipe, but maybe try raw cashew butter or pureed cashews in the filling? If you don’t like mint, of course you are free to omit the extract. And you can sub melted chocolate chips for the last four ingredients if you don't have coconut oil.View Nutrition Facts

Recipe Of The Day:

Love is the only word!! I’ll be making these .. They look sooo good
There IS life out there beyond what we can see…it’s called eternal life! Not so sure about aliens, but I believe the one true God. I’m so glad I have peace that I’m going to heaven when I die!
I cant wait to make these, i love your recipes 🙂
I just tried making these but they came out terrible. I don’t know what I did wrong, but I used regular butter instead of coconut butter and it was super watery and made the patties look really weird. Maybe I should have mixed that mixture with the chocolate mixture?
Also, there wasn’t nearly enough chocolate batter to plant a base and then cover the (runny) peppermint filling. Any suggestions?
Regular butter is NOT the same thing as coconut butter. It’s not even close 🙁
I used earth balance and just stuck it in the freezer after pouring the filling then took them out and added the chocolate layer on top. I should have added more syrup though, because I used dark cocoa powder 😉
These are officially awesome. I made a bunch and put them in my freezer, and my husband keeps sneaking them! Yorks used to be my favorite candy before we went veg, and I really missed them. Thank you!!!
Simple statistics supports the theory of other life “out there”. Those same statistics also support the notion that they’d never visit – at least not on purpose – and shouldn’t really be a major concern to…anyone.
The real question is…what kind of desserts would they have?
Also, I want to eat these.
Also-also, I know it changes the intent but would these work as well with other extracts? Just in the filling, E.G. banana, strawberry, pumpkin or pina colada, etc., maybe add a little food colouring inside for funsies; make a mystery grab-bag of them…
I love your idea… I don’t see why not! Oh wow, almond extract would be good… like chocolate covered marzipan?! Might have to try this :).
Just made these! In the freezer as we speak. My pre-licks though, indicate that they will be tasty. Full report tomorrow! I only got six using muffin cups. I would definitely double or triple the recipe next time.
omg, what?!?! I want these right now! I pretty much just drooled on my keyboard when I saw the first pic. Amazing!
Just wanted to leave a comment for bakers (and makers and cookers lol), as i try to on many of these recipes now.
You can buy many of the ingredients needed on Amazon.com – so you dont have to even get out to the store, or try to FIND a store that has them. (I know – i live in the “STICKS” !! (:
Thank you for including the detailed nutritional facts! It’s so frustrating when people post the info but don’t indicate how many servings their recipe makes, or which options of the “optional” ingredients choices they used to calculate it (you’re usually pretty good about this).
On a somewhat related note, I made homemade “peppermint patties” for Christmas following this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/cream-cheese-candies/detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=cream%20cheese%20mints&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page Basically all it is, is cream cheese, powdered sugar, and peppermint extract; I cut the recipe in half, used half measures-like-sugar stevia for half of the sugar, and added some vanilla to cut the “bite” of the mint and dipped them in melted chocolate chips (it made a TON!). I don’t know how you feel about using the vegan cream cheese but these turned out pretty well, and I still have a few stashed in the freezer 5 months later!
