See? Who says hypnosis doesn’t work?
Birthday Girl
A few weeks ago, my little sister flew in from Boston for Thanksgiving. Her birthday also falls close to the holiday, and therefore we held a special birthday dinner for her at my parents’ house.
My sister is a big fan of the Chocolate Chip White Bean Blondies.
So I was eager to try out my newest idea on her, especially since she isn’t a huge chocoholic. (She doesn’t like bananas either. Sometimes I wonder if we’re really related!)

Deep Dish Cinnamon Roll Pie
One of my Gluten Free Recipes
- 1 cup quick oats
- 2 cans garbanzo or white beans, drained and rinsed (500g after draining)
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 2 and 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 3 T canola or coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 and 1/2 cups sugar or sucanat (Feel free to use less if you’re used to healthy desserts. Or sub some of the sugar with stevia if desired.)
- 2 T cinnamon
Blend all ingredients very, very well in a food processor. Pour into an oiled pan. (I used a 10-inch springform pan, but you can use a smaller pan if you want a really deep-dish pie.) Cook at 350F for around 35 minutes. Let stand at least 10 minutes before removing from the pan. I haven’t tried subbing the sugar with agave, but I do know that many readers have had successfully used agave in my chocolate-chip cookie pie (a similar recipe). So I *think* it would work here as well.
If desired, frost the pie with Creamy Cinnamon Roll Frosting.

Yay! I finally got around to making another recipe (the first being the blondies – yum!) The flavor of these turned out really great, but it didn’t puff up like yours in the picture. Did you use a deep dish pie plate or something for yours? Also, is the texture supposed to be mushy (as the blondies texture was, too), or am I missing something? I personally don’t mind the texture at all, but my kids think it’s a little strange. Didn’t stop them from eating it! Ha ha!
I actually use a springform pan, which makes it pretty deep-dish.
LOL yeah, I guess you could call it mushy… I like “gooey” better! 😉
Mmmm…I love cinnamon!! I can’t wait to try these!
Thanks for the recipe.
Hey Katie! I was wondering if you calculated the calories for this pie! Im making it as I type this 🙂
Sorry, I haven’t.
Apologies if this has already been asked, but would it be okay to use pumpkin in this in place of applesauce? Sorry if it’s a silly question!
xxx
Not a silly q at all! I haven’t tried it with pumpkin, but I almost always have good results using the two interchangeably, so I think it’d be ok! 🙂
I adore this pie, Katie! I have made it twice so far and will be making it for a New Year’s Eve party. I added 1/4 cup chopped pecans just because I like nuts in my cinnamon roll. Also, I made a different glaze. Here’s the recipe I created (I like making up recipes, too!)
Cinnamon Icing (Do not use this icing on the whole pie. Instead, serve on individual pieces as they are cut.) By Jacquie Klockow on 12/5/2011
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 ½ cups powder sugar
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¾ tsp vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a medium bowl, using an electric beater beat the ricotta cheese until smooth.
2. Add the powder sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Beat until well mixed.
3. Spoon icing over pieces of Cinnamon Roll Pie. Store extra glaze in the refrigerator and stir well before using.
Enjoy !
Enjoy
Love your blog. Going to make a bunch of your stuff for our new years eve party…but not tell the men folk or kids that its not sinful! One thing though that you *might* want to note in gluten free recipes. Oats are not usually gluten free due to cross contamination. But you can buy gluten free oats! Just wanted to throw that out there.
Hi Libby!
I try to make my recipes as generic as possible. So even though I use things like almond milk and vegan chocolate chips in recipes, I’ll just say “nondairy milk” and “chocolate chips.” That way people can use what THEY want when they make the recipe. Same with oats: From what I understand, oats don’t really have gluten, but they’re usually processed on equipment that also makes food with gluten so there can be cross-contamination. But someone who is following a GF diet can easily keep this recipe gluten-free by buying certified GF oats, which seem to be pretty widely-available.
Maybe in the future I should say, “CAN be gluten free” as opposed to just saying something’s gluten free. That way it’ll hopefully be less confusing. Thanks for pointing this out to me! 🙂
Hi,
I just found your website and am so excited. I love healthy desserts that taste good!! I was wondering where I can find the nutritional info. on your recipes. I am counting calories. I really want to make the cinnamon roll pie for New Year’s Eve.
Thanks in advance.
Michele
Hi Michele!
Most of my recipes (especially the newer ones) will have a link that says “Nutritional Info” or “Calorie Info” right under the ingredient list and recipe instructions. I didn’t calculate the nutritional info for this recipe, but I did for most of my others :).
Looks delicious!! Have you tried baking these without any sweetener (just applesauce)? I generally bake without adding any sugar at all, but since these have garbanzo beans, I don’t know if that would be okay…
It would be ok texture-wise… I’m not sure about the taste, though. Maybe if you were going for a savory version. Actually, that sounds like a brilliant idea! I might have to try it too. If you try first, let me know how it turns out! 🙂
I made this the other day and paired it with the So delicious Vanilla bean coconut “ice cream” and had three slices yesterday- it is safe to say this is delish! I subbed the oil for more applesauce and used 3/4 c of agave, instead of sugar. It tastes great heated in the microwave (about 15 seconds) and then topped with applebutter or peanut butter! Maybe a peanut butter pie would be good!!
I baked this today but made it into oatmeal raisin cookie bars with a cinnamon drizzle. Tastilicious. I put a photo on my blog. Thanks for inspiring us non-baking, health conscious folk to get into our oven mitts!
I made this today and it was really lovely. I used agave as a sweetener. Thank you Katie!
I have been looking at this post for a few weeks now and finally decided to try the recipe. I cannot believe how delicious this is. It looks as good as it tastes AND i am definitely making again since I have a huge tub of applesauce in the fridge now.
Thanks diva!
I’ve been hypnotised by the spiral! Or maybe it’s just that the pie looks so good.
I made this with a few modifications for a few of my girlfriends for valentines day and they love it! Thanks for the idea 🙂
I made a few mini pies in ramekins today for Sunday morning breakfast, just delicious!
Great recipe! This instantly brought me back to the days when I would walk though the mall and the smell of cinnabon would make me drool! I can’t wait to try this. Every year for Christmas I make my family homemade cinnamon rolls. I will try this- usually I make a low fat recipe with whole wheat flour, truvia, etc, but I am curious on how it tastes with the garbanzo beans! excited!
