Chocolate oatmeal?! Is there really such a thing?

Oh my goodness, yes! In just 5 minutes, you can make this decadent-yet-good-for-you chocolate oatmeal for one.
It’s like dessert for breakfast!
I don’t let chance dictate whether my day gets off to a good start. I’d rather make sure it’ll be a good day… by consuming chocolate first thing.
Sometimes, it’s in the form of my Chocolate Banana Bread.
Or this ultra creamy Vegan Chocolate Mousse.
But often, it simply means mixing a spoonful of chocolate peanut butter into my morning oatmeal, or cutting a big hunk off a 100% chocolate bar to eat on the side of whatever breakfast I might be having.

It’s not possible to eat chocolate and frown at the same time.
Really, it’s not. Try it!
Am I wrong? Can you do it?
Well, then at least I got you to eat some chocolate!

What’s your favorite way to eat oatmeal?
Is there a specific way you always prepare it?
Or maybe you don’t like oatmeal at all?

Questions: Why do you use spelt flour? Is it interchangeable to any regular flour? Where do you buy spelt flour?
Also: I am diabetic. I need to know carb value in recipes before I make or eat them. Please add carb value to your recipes.
Love your site. I have talked to all my family and friends about your site, recipes and your cute personality. Keep up the good work.
It’s usually interchangeable with white flour, but not ANY flour. I always list the options that I’ve tested in each recipe. I buy spelt flour at whole foods, or my local grocery store sells it as well. And all my recipes as of this year do have carb counts listed :).
Thank you for responding. Continued Good Luck with your site.
I love oatgroats cooked with coconut oil, cinnamon, vanilla and sea salt. When it’s all cooked, I throw a handfull of blueberries, some ground flax seed, almonds, pecans and unsweetened coconut flakes on top.
Silly question, but I’m wondering if this would work with the overnight recipe that you make in a mason jar? It sounds really yummy!
Sorry, I’ve never tried it so I don’t know!
So sad but I did something horribly wrong to this and it was not delicious. Luckily, I learn from mistakes (even when I’m not sure what they are), and I vow to try again! Chocolate is always worth a second chance… (and third… and fourth… and..)
This is AMAZING. I left out the banana and replaced 1/2 of the milk w/ water (to save a few calories) it was still really good. The flavor reminds me of cocoa pebbles a bit. Thanks for the recipe, I’m hooked. 🙂
Can I make this using steel cut oats? It takes much longer to cook steel cut oats so when should I put in all the rest of the ingredients?
Sorry, I haven’t tried it so I don’t know when you’d add everything.
I’m now scoffing this down for breakfast every morning! It is so scrummy! I also made it by replacing the banana with a juicy pear mmmm delish! Thank you Katie your creativity is priceless and delicious!
Hey, I found your site through SkinnyTaste.com….I saw your recipe for Brownie Batter Pancakes and I must say, as soon as possible I am running to the grocery store and getting the ingerdients for these. I’d absolutely LOVE to try this recipe but I wasn’t sure, do you know the points plus value for these? I am currently doing weight watchers and oatmeal is one of the power foods, and I can never seem to make it tasty. I want to try your 5 Minute Chocolate Oatmeal so bad!! Thanks. 😀
Hi April!
I’m just now starting to add the pp values to my recipes, so I don’t have it for this one. But if you can tell me the carbs, fiber, protein, and fat, I can calculate the points. (I use this site now: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp)
made this with my 3 year old. we both loved it!
