Sinfully rich, indulgently dark, and secretly healthy chocolate ice cream!

This no-churn, creamy chocolate nice cream has a secret:
A full 1/3 cup of cocoa powder is packed into the recipe, for the ultimate richness.
So if you’ve tried healthy ice cream recipes before and not been blown away, definitely give this one a shot, because you might be surprised.
It’s the perfect healthy frozen treat for any dark chocolate lover, and every time I make this chocolatey nice cream, I can’t stop eating it from the blender!
Also be sure to try this Vegan Chocolate Cake

The new-and-improved recipe is adapted from the chocolate version of my original Banana Ice Cream Recipe, and it uses only natural ingredients, without any additional sweeteners.
If you’re not a dark chocolate fan, you can of course add a little stevia or pure maple syrup or your favorite sweetener if you wish.
But it is not required for the recipe, especially if you start with ripened bananas, often referred to as “nature’s candy” because of their ability to sweeten recipes naturally without having to add extra sugar.

For those of you who don’t want a banana flavor, the extra cocoa added in this healthy ice cream does a great job masking the banana, and opting to use the nut butter (or your favorite nut-free alternative) masks it even more.
I honestly could not taste any banana at all. Then again, I love bananas so I might not be the best person to ask.
*For a banana-free version, try this Almond Milk Ice Cream.

Healthy Chocolate Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 3 frozen bananas (a banana-free version is linked above)
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 2-3 tbsp peanut or almond butter, optional
- pinch salt
- broken-up dark chocolate bar or chips, optional
Instructions
- *Make sure bananas are at least partially brown before peeling, chopping, and then freezing.Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender or food processor—you can add the optional chocolate and the brownie bites before or after blending. Process until completely smooth, adding a little milk of choice if it’s too thick for your blender to process. Either serve immediately as soft serve, or freeze for about an hour and then scoop out with an ice cream scoop. Although nice cream tastes the best the day it’s made, you can technically freeze for up to a few weeks and thaw before eating.View Nutrition Facts

Of course Chocolate Chip cookie dough lara bars are the best! But I just discovered the Lara Bar Bites… so good!
I have never tried Larabars but would love to! Katie, it you say they are great then they must be something special! I would love to try any of them, but I love carrot cake so I’d probably want to try that flavor first!
Never seen a larabar in my life! I will keep an eye out for them next time in the US. But I will love to test these bites! However, when I see the packaging, they remind me strongly of another brand doing bars with only fruits and nuts, so I am wondering whether it could be the same company, selling the product under a different name? They are called “Raw Bite”.
But one question: what about a CCK recipe for Lara bar 🙂 ? Unless it gets you into trouble with copyright for using their name, of course!
I will squirrel away the ice cream recipe for warmer timed… let’s say, summer. Right now, if you can’t eat it hot, I am not interested!

I love the Pecan Pie Larabar but am very intrigued by the Larabar bits. I can’t wait to try them out!! Another flavor I have ordered but have not tried yet are the Key Lime Pie Larabars. Hope I am not disappointed.
I would love to try the Cashew Cookie because of the simple ingredients and it sounds so good!
apple pie my favorite, going to look at bites on amazon now….cant wait to try….
I would like anything with peanut butter.
I LOVE LARABAR’S. I discovered these wonderful gems just last year when my family and I went on whole 30 diet. These bars were a life saver, so much so that I continued to eat a whole food inspired diet after the challenge. I appreciate this company so much because I am also gluten intolerant and since breast feeding I have also given up dairy. My favorite bar flavor is Apple pie, but after reading this recipe I went out to my local sprouts store and picked up these brownie bites. They are delicious. Thank you Katie for all your recipes, you’ve inspired me to cook to my health! Cheers to you.
I love the chocolate chip Lara Bar…sooooo good! <3
I love the key lime pie and cannot wait to try the brownie bites!!!
