If desired, try topping the homemade chocolate mousse with Coconut Whipped Cream or this Keto Ice Cream.

I sent the recipe to a friend who’s following a keto diet, and she texted me to say that her non-keto family loved the chocolate mousse so much that she barely even got a serving for herself.

If you’re vegan like I am, the dessert is naturally egg free and can easily be made dairy free by using coconut milk or coconut cream. Feel free to use regular sugar or your favorite sweetener of choice if you’re not on a low carb or sugar free diet.

How to make keto mousse

Start by gathering all of your ingredients. Chill the coconut milk or heavy cream and the actual mixing bowl, then whip the liquid with hand beaters until it thickens and stiff peaks form.

Whip in the cocoa powder and sweetener of choice. For the richest flavor, I recommend including the dutch cocoa if you can find it. Once a mousse texture is achieved, serve and enjoy.

Cover any leftovers, and store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

Egg Free Sugar Free Chocolate Mousse

The recipe was adapted from my Vegan Chocolate Mousse and from this 3 ingredient Peanut Butter Mousse.

  • 1/4 cup sweetener of choice (I used this monk fruit blend)
  • optional 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • optional 1/4 tsp instant coffee

Instructions

    This is not “just 3 ingredients”, it’s 4 to 6 😉

    1. Hannah says:

Coconut milk or cream, cocoa powder, sweetener. That does look like three to me. I don’t think she’s counting the optional ones because they aren’t required.

Add a pinch of salt. You won’t taste it and it makes it taste sweeter.

    2. ssk says:

Right. She’s using two kinds of cocoa powder, which are separate items, so that is four items, without the optional ingredients. From what I’m seeing lately, it appears that she might be switching from vegan to vegetarian. She also describes some recipes as being sugar free when they have sugars in them; for instance dates, maple syrup, and others. I think she means “refined” sugar free, but that is not what she says. And she says that a lot of recipes are healthy that are not actually healthy. Some of them might be healthier than traditional recipes, but they are not all that healthy.

      1. CCK Media Team says:

The dutch cocoa is not required, as it says in the recipe, so as Hannah says, it can be three ingredients. I’m unclear as to which recipe you are referring to that is mislabeled as sugar-free; we don’t think that we have ever done such a thing and would love to know what recipes you are looking at so that we can look at them too.

She is providing information to help people. Those being critical need to just move on and find something that better suits them. Be polite, take a good look in the mirror and find something better to do. Those of us that appreciate the information say Thank You!

Exactly what I was thinking. If you can only say negative things, just don’t say anything. Its hard enough to stay on track. Dont need those negative comments here. Thank you

Some people just like to nitpick, nothing better to do. Got to feel sorry for them if that is all they have in their lives.

        2. Cassie says:

Is the sugar sub powdered or granular?

      3. Cl0wd9 says:

Why do people always want to argue over the stupid things. Congratulations on your math but I think the point is more that it is a simple recipe than a math issue

    3. Nunya says:

Heavy cream, chocolate, sweetener. The other ingredients are all optional.

  2. Hannah says:

Making this today and I’m not even keto 😂 it looks like a great snow day project

    1. Lauren says:

      It was SO GOOD!

  3. Liv13 says:

  4. Gwen says:

  6. Kate says:

    Hi Katie,

Do you think that this recipe could be made and then frozen? I’m the only keto person in my household, and I’d really like to have a dessert ready to grab from the freezer when the craving strikes!

    Thank you!

    1. CCK Media Team says:

Hmm sorry we have never tried!

    2. CW says:

I freeze this in individual containers. You can let it defrost fully in the refrigerator or I let it sit on the counter for about 10 minutes. It’s a little like ice cream when it’s partially frozen.

    3. Marlene says:

This recipe seems pretty much identical to the Keto Frosty! I would you could just stick some of it in the freezer for about 45 minutes and have it like a frosty (yum!), then freeze the rest and eat it later.

  7. Lauren says:

This recipe is a keeper! I’m not a fan of keto desserts normally but there is someone on low carb in my family so I made it for him expecting to not have any for myself. Well the joke was on me because I didn’t want to share!

  8. Nicole says:

Hello! This looks great but I’m wondering what the serving size is and how many servings this makes?

  9. Maria says:

Depending on the cocoa powder, it can be bitter. Adding salt helped.

  10. Andy says:

What is the actual yield of this recipe? It says it makes 1 1/4 cups, yet is starts with 1 1/2 cups cream and 1/4 cup sweetener plus chocolate. That’s almost 2 cups before whiipping. Thanks.

    1. Jackie says:

Can you put the can size please!
