I sent the recipe to a friend who’s following a keto diet, and she texted me to say that her non-keto family loved the chocolate mousse so much that she barely even got a serving for herself.
If you’re vegan like I am, the dessert is naturally egg free and can easily be made dairy free by using coconut milk or coconut cream. Feel free to use regular sugar or your favorite sweetener of choice if you’re not on a low carb or sugar free diet.

How to make keto mousse
Start by gathering all of your ingredients. Chill the coconut milk or heavy cream and the actual mixing bowl, then whip the liquid with hand beaters until it thickens and stiff peaks form.
Whip in the cocoa powder and sweetener of choice. For the richest flavor, I recommend including the dutch cocoa if you can find it. Once a mousse texture is achieved, serve and enjoy.
Cover any leftovers, and store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

The recipe was adapted from my Vegan Chocolate Mousse and from this 3 ingredient Peanut Butter Mousse.

Keto Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream OR 1 can full-fat coconut milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp dutch or additional regular cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup sweetener of choice (I used this monk fruit blend)
- optional 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- optional 1/4 tsp instant coffee
Instructions
- Chill the liquid and a large mixing bowl. If using coconut milk, only use the thick part at the top of the can (discard the water underneath). With either a stand mixer or hand beaters, whip until stiff peaks form. Add remaining ingredients and whip until it forms a smooth mousse texture.View Nutrition Facts

Need to get dutched cocoa for the next time to see if it changes the taste. Super easy and quick for the dessert fix!
So easy so delicious! Such a nice keto treat. I used Swerve the granulated brown, on accident but it was amazing! This will be a regular treat in our home forever. So glad I found this.
Just made this. It’s delicious. I used Alloulose sweetener & coconut cream. I couldn’t get mousse texture, maybe because I only hand a stick blender. Still good. Thank you. 😃
If I make the mousse ahead of time (the night before serving), should I store it in the serving dishes, or in the mixing bowl? Wondering if it will change the consistency. Thanks!
Hi! This is entirely your choice and should be fine either way 🙂
I absolutly loved it just the way it was ! But I also made another version and added dark choclate collegen and a teaspoon of powder esspresso and it was equally delish! glad I found and made it and it was so so easy!
Your version sounds wonderful 🙂
My husband really loves this. It’s great to have this as a diabetic dessert.
Delicious! I have made this multiple times with heavy cream (have not tried it with coconut milk). I double the recipe and make some whipped cream topping. I freeze half in small containers for ice cream and it’s perfect! If I am feeling fancy, I top with dark chocolate shavings. I do add a dash of salt.
I will also advocate to use a combination of sugar substitutes. If you only use one kind, I think the aftertaste is noticeable.
This was amazing! I blended in a piece of Ghirardelli 86% cacao intense dark chocolate, talk about decadent and rich! My husband loved this also. I can definitely see this used on a layered dessert or as a topping.
If you, like me, are using coconut milk & accidentally don’t read the part about only using the top portion (or don’t know what that means bc 90% of the can is liquid & am I really wasting all that?!) …. just know that you can throw this in an ice cream maker and get ice cream as well LOL… sorry, Katie.
So outrageously yummy!!!!
