Meet my new Puppy!

Yesterday morning’s weather was abominable.

Abominable.

Like the snowman.

Thankfully, breakfast made up for the weather.

Warm, cinnamony Snickerdoodle Oatmeal.

Dear spellchecker, “cinnamony” is too a word. Don’t you know anything??

Usually, rainy days are reserved for staying inside with a warm drink and a good book. Yesterday, however, I had somewhere special to go. October is “Adopt a Pet” month, and even though I’m not over the death of my dog (and I never will be), I know I can offer a good home to a lonely puppy.

Can you believe this guy was scheduled to be euthanized?

He looked so sad in his crate; it would’ve been impossible to not take him home. If you’re ever thinking of buying a dog, please consider adoption so that adorable pups like this one won’t be put down.

I really want to call him Batman. (Check out those ears!) But my sister informs me this would be cruel and I must give him a proper name. So far, he-who-must-not-be-named seems to be getting along with Henry, my other dog. Henry pretty much ignores the puppy.

Grumpy Henry.

He is so handsome! You are awesome for adopting a shelter dog. They are the best. If my boyfriend and I didn’t have to spend so much time away from the house (at work & long commutes), we would get one in a heartbeat. For now, it’s just us, a chinchilla, and three turtles he rescued from someone who “couldn’t take care of them anymore”. (I don’t like turtles as pets – they should be wild!)

Have you considered reading Jon Katz’ new book: “Going Home. Finding peace when pets die”? Fantastic book. Healing. Story form. (Jon Katz is a FANTASTIC writer. He writes mostly about his dogs…and his farm animals. His blog: http://www.bedlamfarm.com/ is sooo worth checking out!)

    Hi Katie!

Your dog sure looks like a sweetheart and I love the name Batman 🙂
In fact our dog’s name is Batman (we’ve had him for three years and the owner’s 4 year old son named him- we liked it so much that we kept it). I wish you and Batman many joyful years together!!!

    I used to have pets..
I miss them now that I live with my Dad. :(:(.
    I miss them all!!..
The cats: Max, Elsa, Casper, Ozzy and Zack. The horses: Otis, Ben and Filby. The dogs: Bandit and Harley. The rabbits: Buddy and Rocky. Brother’s hamster: Hammy ((LOL)). My rat: Prince.
So yeah, I guess going from 14 to 0 is pretty big. Still, I occasionally get to see them now :):).
