Meet my new Puppy!

Yesterday morning’s weather was abominable.

Abominable.

Like the snowman.

Thankfully, breakfast made up for the weather.

Warm, cinnamony Snickerdoodle Oatmeal.

Dear spellchecker, “cinnamony” is too a word. Don’t you know anything??

Usually, rainy days are reserved for staying inside with a warm drink and a good book. Yesterday, however, I had somewhere special to go. October is “Adopt a Pet” month, and even though I’m not over the death of my dog (and I never will be), I know I can offer a good home to a lonely puppy.

Can you believe this guy was scheduled to be euthanized?

He looked so sad in his crate; it would’ve been impossible to not take him home. If you’re ever thinking of buying a dog, please consider adoption so that adorable pups like this one won’t be put down.

I really want to call him Batman. (Check out those ears!) But my sister informs me this would be cruel and I must give him a proper name. So far, he-who-must-not-be-named seems to be getting along with Henry, my other dog. Henry pretty much ignores the puppy.

Grumpy Henry.

Your sister is nuts, Batman is perfect. 😉
I have an adorable corgi named Marbles! She’s got a really unusual coloring, and she has one brown eye and one blue eye! I also love her because in the 7 or so years we’ve had her, she’s never once growled at, or been mean to anyone or anything. She does still bark when someone’s at the door, but that’s her saying hello!

Bless you, Katie, for saving that sweet puppy! I hope you and the puppy have many happy years together.
We had 3 dogs as of 15 months ago, but I lost my German shepherd in July 2010 to cancer, and we lost another dog 3 weeks ago, also to cancer. We are left with one 12-year-old dog, a 14 year old cat and a 15 year old cat, so our house is the geriatric ward for pets.

Soooo cute!! I love animals. (Duh) We aren’t supposed to have pets in our rental, but I do have Betty 🙂 She’s my 8 year old goldfish. And guess what…she’s mostly vegan! Ha! I need to do a blog post about her soon. She’s adorable. (Duh)

Oh, Katie, he is so adorable!! I’m so glad he found you and a good home 🙂 Maybe you could name him something like Bartholomew and call him Batman for short? Or is Bartholomew even worse? 😉

  5. Michaela says:

I was just recently thinking about Molly.
That puppy looks scared indeed, god knows what has happened to him… He is so lucky to have found a home with you 🙂
Good luck with choosing a name!

Awww! Cute puppy!! Batman is totally acceptable. A neighbors black cat is named the bat!

I have a kitten that I adopted from the SPCA. I love her. I named her Mochi. She’s my baby <3

Also right now my roommate and I are fostering a chocolate lab/golden mix who is sooo sweet.

  7. Chris says:

Why not name him Bruce Wayne??? It’s perfect!

    1. Sarah says:

Oh i love that name, Chris! I totally steal that for my future dog 🙂

I also recommend naming him Bruce Wayne!

        1. Sarah says:

There ya go Katie, i think Bruce Wayne and Batman are the top picks for names so far. Batman is accurate, but Bruce Wayne is a proper name to please your sister- maybe mix it up like BruceBat WayneMan or maybe Bruce Man, Bat Wayne, or something like that. 🙂

  8. Sarah says:

He is really cute! I would love to adopt a dog (dont like cats), but Mama says no. BUMMER! When im older i will adopt dogs and children 🙂 Maybe you should name him a chocolate themed name, or something to do with October. Pumpkin? Espresso? 100% Cocoa? or maybe just Cocoa, because you are a chocolate lady. Oh, i love Black Forest! Personally i like Batman a lot. How about Licorice, because he’s as black as black licorice? Just a few ideas here!

P.S.- what do you call him right now?

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

      lol Batman. I can’t help it 😉

      1. Sarah says:

Then go for it! Maybe sister will come around?

  9. Colleen says:

You totally should name him Batman, I definitely see the resemblance!

I was trying to think of possible names for your new ‘puppy love’, keeping it in the ‘chocolate vein’…and thought, hmm, “D.C.- short for Dark Chocolate”. LOL. I am happy for you, do agree with you about how everyone should think about adopting a pet. I adopted my sweet dog, Ginny, and never regretted it. She was a cute little, fluffy puppy, and grew to be SUCH a loving member of my family. I adopted her about a year before I got married, and whenever my husband and I had to leave town because he was on active duty, my mother-in-law took her in, and essentially fell in love with her. I miss my Ginny, still. She was hit by a vehicle driving WAY too fast down our rural, dirt road in 2004, and I wasn’t there to say goodbye to her. So, I know how sad it can be, losing a pet- especially whenever they feel like a real part of one’s family.
I hope this new puppy helps your heart to heal, when it comes to having lost your other dog. And, enjoy the ‘getting to know you’ stages!

    Have a great day!
    Christie
