Meet my new Puppy!

Yesterday morning’s weather was abominable.

Abominable.

Like the snowman.

Thankfully, breakfast made up for the weather.

Warm, cinnamony Snickerdoodle Oatmeal.

Dear spellchecker, “cinnamony” is too a word. Don’t you know anything??

Usually, rainy days are reserved for staying inside with a warm drink and a good book. Yesterday, however, I had somewhere special to go. October is “Adopt a Pet” month, and even though I’m not over the death of my dog (and I never will be), I know I can offer a good home to a lonely puppy.

Can you believe this guy was scheduled to be euthanized?

He looked so sad in his crate; it would’ve been impossible to not take him home. If you’re ever thinking of buying a dog, please consider adoption so that adorable pups like this one won’t be put down.

I really want to call him Batman. (Check out those ears!) But my sister informs me this would be cruel and I must give him a proper name. So far, he-who-must-not-be-named seems to be getting along with Henry, my other dog. Henry pretty much ignores the puppy.

Grumpy Henry.

Your new puppy is adorable! I adopted a cat last winter, Morgan, she is the best cat ever. I had to take her home as she had been living at the shelter for 2 whole years!

Eeee…. congratulations!!! What an adorably addition to your family! I am so happy he has a second chance at life. And I know he’s in the best hands with you as his Mummy! And I don’t think Batman is an unreasonable name. You could always go with Bruce Wayne. How old is he?

Do they have a lot of dogs at the humane and resuce societies in your area? Up here, dogs get adopted really fast and often the dog area of the shelter is empty or being used for our extreme overpopulation of cats. Thus, they often bring in dogs from other shelters so they can be adopted. The California Cuties programme (where a charity flies up small dogs from California to Edmonton) is always a huge hit and those babies who were on death row get adopted within days here.

Have a great day with your new puppy. Maybe you can train him to run with you. 🙂

No, actually they don’t have a lot of dogs (thank goodness). But they have a lot of shelters, each with a few dogs. Dallas is a big area.

Batman is one… very puppy-ish! He LOVES to run. I definitely need to take him with me and try him out :).

  3. Sara says:

PLEASE call him Batman. He’s your dog. It’s a wonderful name. If you’re self-conscious about it, you could always call him Bruce Wayne, I suppose. That would be funnier.

What?!?! Why is “Batman” cruel?! I think Batman is an awesome name! And very fitting! Just DO IT!!! 🙂 OR… if you really did want a more “proper” name….. you could always name him Bruce Wayne. (heehee!) 😉 😉

Our dogs are Italian Greyhounds, and their names are Sicily (after the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea) & Siena (a city in Tuscany, Italy.)! ~ I love creative & unique names! <3

That puppy is so cute and I see nothing wrong with naming him Batman.

  6. Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says:

Haha I like the name batman! I have a goldfish and two hermit crabs. Their names are Neville (the fish) and then padfoot and prongs. All after harry potter characters!

  7. Heather says:

I was going to say just what Sara did I think Bruce Wayne would be a good compromise, if you decide not to name him Batman, though he does look like a Batman to me : )

I adopted two kittens from a shelter soon after my first cat passed away. I probably wasn’t “ready,” but as you say, I’ll never really be over her loss, and I couldn’t pass up those adorable kittens. I’m so happy that I’ve given them a home. They bring a lot of joy into my life, and I wouldn’t trade them now if I could.

Totally adorable and I think Batman is his name. Or he could be both Bruce Wayne and then Batman when he’s protecting the house (when the doorbell rings, he hears a siren, etc). Thank you for saving his little life. You’re his hero!

My son and I have a yorkie/maltese mix puppy – Moxy Girl and looking forward to adding a cat to the family in the near future. We just lost our hamster, Spike Whiskers Sullivan, this Monday. 🙁

Oh, and my son LOVED your Hostess Cupcakes! I made them a couple of weeks ago and he/we really enjoyed them.

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

Aww I am so so excited you made them… and even more happy he liked them :).

  9. Chloe@LightOnMyFeet says:

Aww, such a cute puppy! I think Batman is a real name for a dog and even if I was a dude, it’d be awesome to be named Batman haha.

  10. Whitney says:

He’s a cutie! With reference to his amazing ears you could call him Radar. If Batman fits him, you should go with it. AND he has his own theme song…na-na na-na na-na na-na Batman! So fun. We have a golden retriever rescue named Apollo, but his nick name is Nut-Nut. So we sing to him in the tune of “My Little Buttercup”…”my little Nut-Nut, has the sweetest smile.” My childhood Chihuahua was named Nipper.

Oh, and if he is like most Chihuahua’s he NEEDS a sweater. He will love it! A big thick sock with holes cut for his head and legs can suffice until you can get him one.
