Red, White, and Blueberries!

I’m terrible at making decisions.

So when I tried to decide which recipes to include in my Fourth of July post, I had no idea where to start. Basically any dessert recipe could be good for a Fourth of July party, right?

Well, maybe not the Cake Batter Ice Cream.

To simplify things, I’m choosing to highlight only recipes with either red or blue berries. And you can add the other colored berry (as well as non-dairy ice cream or whipped cream) to complete the patriotic look.

Single-Serving Strawberry Shortcakes

Just swap some of the strawberries with blueberries, and voila! A patriotic cupcake for one. (Alternatively, you can make multiple cupcakes and sub all blueberries in some of them.)

Chocolate-Raspberry Bites

Make one batch with raspberries. Then make another batch, subbing an equal amount of blueberries for the raspberries called for in the recipe.

Blueberry Muffin in a Bowl

Once again, just add some strawberries or raspberries for red, white, and blue oatmeal.

Chocolate-Blueberry Cupcakes

Ice with red frosting, or white frosting and red+blue sprinkles

blueberry-m

Blueberry Pie Pancakes

I actually have a strawberry shortcake version of this too! I just haven’t gotten a chance to post it yet. The recipe is very similar, but if you need more specifics, feel free to ask and I can write it out quickly in a comment.

Healthy Whipped Cream

Okay, so I cheated with this one. It doesn’t have any berries. But you need something white to go with all that blue and red. Besides, this stuff tastes incredible when poured over fresh berries.

You can’t do 4th of July food without berries. It’s the natural way to do red and blue. Love it.

Sorry that I’ve been more of a lurker on your site lately. Haven’t had much time to comment now that my son is off from school for the summer. Luckily, I did find a moment to make a 5 in 5 video for the Hot Raw Chef contest (http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2011/06/conquering-5-in-5.html). It’s the first time I’ve been brave enough to do something like this. I’d really appreciate it if you’d vote for me, and I’d also love to see you do some videos. I bet the rest of your readers would enjoy it, too. Thanks 🙂

Everything you make looks soo good. I’ve tried your special voluminous oatmeal with raspberries and your banana oatmeal bred/cake, and both where delicious!!! Next up is your blueberry pancakes which look yummy.
I’m from Norway and here our national day is 17th of may. It’s tradition to wear a “bunad” (national costume) and to watch/participate in different processions (schools, scouts etc) waving flags and such. It’s also become tradition to hotdogs and to eat as much ice cream as possible. My record is 12, though many of my friends has 30 (!).
Anyways, hope you’ll have a wonderful 4th of july 😀

Oh my gosh, thirty? LOL even twelve sounds like a ton!
I remember once I wanted to enter a banana-pie-eating contest… my mom wouldn’t let me! She thought I’d get sick. 😕

Happy Independence Day to all my American friends! Enjoy your long weekend 🙂

I’m Irish so we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we don’t actually have an independence day. (There are celebrations every Easter though to commerate the Easter Rising of 1916) On St. Patrick’s Day I like to dye everything green! And a traditional dinner would be ham or maybe lamb as it’s springtime.

We’re going to a BBQ on Monday and I’m bringing a huge bowl of guacamole — it is what I bring to almost every party and it is such a crowd pleaser.

Ahhh, we do nothing in England! We’ve got Christmas and Easter and that’s basically it. I think there’s St. George’s day, but no one does much for it.
