The Candy Corn Milkshake

I love Halloween.

I have freakishly-strong nails that grow like weeds, so one year I painted them to look like candy corns. They looked so awesome! (Of course, just one day after all my hard work, my pinkie nail decided to break. Eh, what can ya do?) This year, I opted for an easier decoration: a candy-corn milkshake. The recipe is just your average banana milkshake. But it looks super-fun and festive:

The Candy Corn Milkshake

  • 3/4 cup milk of choice
  • 1 extremely ripe, frozen banana
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • a few drops red and yellow food coloring OR a pinch turmeric for the yellow
  • optional: If going the all-natural route, make up a second smoothie: 3/4 cup milk, 1/2 cup canned pumpkin, and sweetener to taste. Use this for the orange portion.

Blend all ingredients except food coloring. Divide equally among three glasses (or two glasses if you want to just use whipped topping as your white layer). Put a few drops yellow food coloring in one glass, and red and yellow in the other (to make orange). Then pour the glasses into one large glass and drink up!

Feel free to top your shake with: Healthy Cool Whip.

I want to like candy corn, but it has never appealed to me! This milkshake on the other hand is right up my alley!

    Hi Katie,

I am a new follower of your blog! I feel kind of silly asking this, but I just don’t know what you mean, so I will ask! What do you mean by “nondairy milk?” Your recipe is soy free, so I know it is not soy milk. Rice milk? Or Coconut milk?

Thanks for clarifying for me. 🙂

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

      You can use anything! 🙂

I usually use almondmilk when I call for “nondairy milk” but I like to leave it general so people can use whatever they prefer. Soymilk, ricemilk, coconut milk… anything you wish, really!

It certainly caught my attention and now I keep on checking back to see what the news is.

I used to love candy corn, so of course, I’m a fan of your shake. You could naturally color and flavor it with pineapple for the yellow and mango/orange for the orange. It would be a fun tropical version of it. Also, for fall, pumpkin would be perfect for the orange layer and add some turmeric to make the yellow.

This is a question for Katie or anyone else who knows the answer…
I was wondering if there is any tofu out there that is not soy based. I cannot of soy because of the phytoestrogens and my blood clotting mutation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Chocolate-Covered Katie says:

I read about making “tofu” with garbanzo bean flour. Google it and see if you can find a recipe… and then I’d love to hear how it goes if you try it!

Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday!!!!!!! Unfortunately, or house never gets any trick-or-treaters, so we head over to my in-laws’ place. I think I get more excited about it than my kids, lol!

Ah, nothing wrong with being a tease from time to time! I love the colours of this milkshake!

This is cute and festive, especially for those of us struggling to get fall weather! The photos are great too – thanks for posting, Katie!

    Love the colors!

I don’t really do anything for Halloween. I wouldn’t celebrate at all if it weren’t for going trick or treating with my nieces and nephews. They have such a blast that it’s fun. But it’s always FREEZING here on Halloween and 90% of the time it’s raining too. So that parts stinks!
